AFRICAT bases its work on the following fundamental principles:

Culture is a dimension that is relevant throughout human society and for this reason, a deep understanding of each others’ culture is an indispensable factor and condition for international co-operation, especially between impoverished countries and rich countries.

International co-operation does not have to solely involve co-operation between states but can also include associations, cities,  schools, towns, NGOs, individuals… etc.

Co-operation for development that respects the dignity of developing countries should avoid being a process of endless aid to those countries, but instead look to form relationships based on the spirit of reciprocity and the promotion of common interest.

The creation of opportunities for mutual understanding, dialogue and joint work between Catalans and Africans, contributes to the achievement of conditions for reconciliation and friendship between the people of Africa and Europe.

Above and beyond the exchange of material goods,  international co-operation should involve a significant human dimension and be one of the most appropriate channels for the spread new attitudes, new ways of thinking and of seeing each other, both towards Africa and towards Europe.
