AFRICAT was created on 12th December 1999 in Barcelona. The Statutes were approved by the Main Directorate of Legal Organizations of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
On 15th October 2005, the modification of the Statues was proposed to the General Meeting, in order to deepen the link between the cultural aspect of AFRICAT's work and that of co-operation, remembering the precarious economic situation in Africa.
The General Meeting unanimously approved the modification of the Statutes and as a consequence the name change:

The new Board of Directors was confirmed as:
